Stand-Up Meetings: The Shortest Meeting Is a Standing One

Environmental prevention with no extra effort: standing meetings systematically reduce sitting time and can be anchored as a BGM measure in the movement action area.

Why discussions work better standing up People standing get to the point faster. Without the comfort of a chair, no one drifts off-topic, monologues become rarer, and decisions are reached sooner. That's no coincidence: standing signals to the brain that something matters and will move forward quickly. Short, regular check-ins benefit from this the most.

Healthier, almost incidentally Every meeting held standing up is one less sitting phase. With several short meetings a day, this adds up noticeably – with no one having to 'exercise' at all. This invisibility is exactly the strength: the measure requires no rethinking about health, it merely changes the format.

How it takes hold on its own The best place to start is with formats that are short anyway – the daily stand-up, the quick check-in. A high table or simply a room without chairs is enough. Once participants notice they finish more punctually, the format sustains itself. Long, content-heavy meetings naturally stay seated, of course – this is about the many short ones in between.

How to put it in place

  1. 1
Geeignetes Meeting identifizieren: tägliches oder wöchentliches Status-Meeting (max. 15 Min Agenda)
  2. 2
Ort wählen: Stehend im Bürobereich, kein Meetingraum mit Stühlen
  3. 3
Optional: Flipchart oder Whiteboard als Hilfsmittel
  4. 4
Nicht geeignet für: Feedback-Gespräche, Konfliktgespräche, Präsentationen mit Laptop
  5. 5
Im Team ankündigen: "Unser tägliches Standup findet ab jetzt im Stehen statt"
  6. 6
Regel klar kommunizieren: Maximal 15 Minuten – jeder sagt kurz (1) Was hab ich gestern gemacht, (2) Was mache ich heute, (3) Gibt es Blockaden?
  7. 7
  10. 10
Moderation: Reihum, jeder maximal 2 Minuten
  11. 11
Diskussionen stoppen: "Lass uns das danach bilateral klären" – Stehmeeting ist kein Diskussionsforum
  12. 12
Bei Unpünktlichkeit: Starten ohne die zu spät Kommenden
  13. 13
Feedback einholen: Fühlen sich Meetings effizienter an?
  14. 14
    Durchschnittliche Meetingdauer vorher/nachher vergleichen
  15. 15
Entscheiden: Format auf andere Meetings ausweiten?
